Hi, guys. How have you been? I’m Haruna. It’s getting warmer and warmer here. I can’t believe about 8 months have already passed. The time flies so fast. I’ve spent a great time with my host family and my friends, so I want to share my New Zealand life with you.
I go to Horowhenua College in Levin. I take 6 subjects and my favorite subject is carpentry. Now, I’m making steps for my host family as my last project. I’ve made three things so far: a cabinet, chopping board, and serving tray. My first project was the cabinet. I had no idea what I should do, so I often asked my teacher. One time when I asked my teacher, the teacher said to me” Get the square.” I had no idea what “the square” meant. I thought, “What is the square? I cannot see any “square”” Then, I asked again “what is a square?” It is called sashigane in Japanese. Maybe, someone knows this name but it was a new word for me. I learned many tools’ name both in English and Japanese in this class. I don’t think I’m going to become a carpenter in the future but it was a good experience for me. I learned an important thing, which is ‘asking questions’. The first few times were so hard for me because I was not good at asking something, even in Japanese. But I started to ask questions to any teacher and kiwi students and now they are my good friends. I sometimes hung out with them to celebrate our birthdays.
My host family is a wonderful family. They have three kids, 5 and 3-year-old boys and a 1-year-old girl. This family is busy every day. I always play with kids after school. It was hard to understand what the kids said to me. Sometimes I still cannot understand what they say but their parents can’t understand, either. Children are learning how to speak English as well. To be honest, I really enjoy talking with kids because their imagination is so funny. Maybe, I’m going to miss their voice when I go back to Japan because I spend a lot of time with them. My host parents are so kind. They both like cooking, so I sometimes cook with them. One of my memories with this family is a North Island car trip. We had a lot of drama in this travel but it was a really fun time. It was a long car ride, so I could enjoy talking with kids. We went to Taupo, Waitomo, Auckland, and Rotorua. We enjoyed all of the activities and I could make many good memories with them.
I’m enjoying staying here. It is sad to say goodbye to all of my friends, teachers, and this family. I want to enjoy the rest of this homestay and grow up as much as I can. Thank you for reading until the end.

みなさん、こんにちは！お元気ですか？私は晴奈です。ここはだんだんと暖かくなってきました。もう約8か月も経ってしまったなんて、信じられません。時間が過ぎるのはとても早いです。私は素晴らしい時間をホストファミリーや友達と過ごしています。そこで、皆さんに私のニュージーランドの生活をお話しします。
私は、レビンのホロフェヌアカレッジに通っています。私は６つの科目をとっていて、お気に入りは大工（図工・技術）という科目です。今、最後のプロジェクトとしてステップ（踏み台）をホストファミリーに作っています。私はこれまでに３つのものを作ってきました。それらは、キャビネット、まな板、お盆です。初めのプロジェクトとして、キャビネットを作りました。最初は、全くなにをすればいいのかわからなかったのでよく先生に質問しました。ある時、先生は私に「squareを持ってきなさい」と仰いました。私は「square」が何かわからず、「squareって何？四角いものなんて見当たらない。」と思いました。そこでもう一度、「squareって何ですか？」と質問しました。それは日本語で、「さしがね」と呼ばれる道具でした。もしかしたら知っている人もいると思いますが、私には新しい言葉でした。たくさんの道具の名前を英語と日本語で知ることができました。将来大工さんになるとは思いませんが、いい経験になりました。そして、大事なことも学びました。それは、「質問すること」です。初めの何回かはとても大変でした。なぜなら、私は日本語でも質問することが得意ではなかったからです。しかし、ニュージーランドの先生や生徒に質問し始めたことで、今では彼女たちは私の良い友達なりました。私たちは時々一緒に出掛けてお互いの誕生日も祝っています。
私のホストファミリーは素晴らしい家族です。彼らは３人の子供がいて、５歳と３歳の男の子と、１歳の女の子です。この家族はいつもこどもたちの騒ぎ声などで、忙しいです。私は毎日子供たちと放課後遊んでいます。彼らが何を私に言っているのか理解するのは、大変でした。時々、今でも理解できないことがありますがそれは彼らの両親も同じです。なぜなら、子供たちも英語を学んでいるからです。正直に言って、彼らの想像力は面白くて私は彼らと話すのが好きです。多分、日本に帰ったら彼らの声をききたくなるでしょう。なぜなら、私はたくさんの時間を彼らと過ごしたからです。私のホストペアレンツは、とても親切です。彼らは料理をすることが好きなので、私は時々一緒に料理をします。私の彼らとの思い出の一つは、車での北島旅行です。たくさんのドラマがありましたが、とても楽しい時間でした。長いドライブだったので、子供たちとおしゃべりも楽しみました。私たちは、タウポ、ワイトモ、オークランド、ロトルアに行きました。すべてのアクティヴィティーを楽しみ、良い思い出を彼らと作ることができました。
私は、この滞在を楽しんでいます。全ての友達や、先生、ホストファミリーにさよならを言うのは悲しいです。残りの期間を楽しみ、できる限り成長したいです。最後まで読んでくださり、ありがとうございました。
