Mitsuki

Hello everyone. I’m Mitsuki Nakamura. I go to Hauraki Plains College with my best partner, Mizuho. I have only a few months before I go back to Japan. It’s so amazing. Time flies so fast. I’m enjoying myself in NZ so I want to introduce about it. 

   

First, I’ll tell you about my school. I take eight subjects which are English, math, science, social studies, P.E., Maori, hospitality and ESOL. It’s hard for me to take classes in English all the time. However, I’ve gotten used to them. It’s interesting to hear lessons. I also want to tell you about my club. I’m a member of the badminton club. I had a Senior Badminton Championship. I played doubles with my partner. I was so nervous but, thanks to her, I could play it well. We won the championship, so I was very happy. We have another competition and I’m looking forward to it. I also sing in the choir. I went to some schools to sing songs. It was a fun day for me because I could feel different reaction of each school. I had a good time with choir members.

 

Second, I’ll tell you about my host family. There are host mother, host father, host sister and me in my host family. They have two cats, two alpacas and two sheep. When I met them at first, I was so nervous because I couldn’t understand their English well and I couldn’t tell my feeling enough to them. I thought it was usual so I didn’t care. However, I couldn’t open my heart to them even after some time. I just couldn’t adjust to their atmosphere. I knew it’s not good, so I tried to get over it. Still, I didn’t know what to do. Then, I became homesick, even though my host family kept speaking to me very kindly. One day, I fed the alpacas with my host father and host sister. The alpacas were so big that I was scared. One alpaca ate the feed but the other one didn’t eat it. I was happy but I wasn’t satisfied because the one alpaca didn’t eat it. My host father and host sister tried it many times but she didn’t eat it in the end. I fed them next day but one alpaca didn’t eat it again. I was so sad. When I fed alone, I spoke to the alpaca. However, she just stood and watched me. I gave up the idea of feeding both alpacas successfully, but I fed them the next day again. It’s because I like watching alpacas. I tried feeding them as usual. Then, suddenly, the two alpacas came very close to me and both of them ate it! I was so surprised and happy. My host mother and host father were surprised, too. I thought the two alpacas opened their heart to me accepting me as a member of the family. At that moment, I learned an important thing from the two alpacas. It’s that I have to show that I’m trying to open my heart to my host family, not just thinking it in my mind. I started to join their conversation. I like talking about everything with my host family now. By the way, the two alpacas have gone to have a baby. After that, two sheep came to our house. My host family will eat them for their Christmas dinner. It’s very surprising, isn’t it?

 

Finally, I want to say thank you to my family and my friends. They’ve been helping me all the time. Thanks to them, I could meet good people and have good experiences in NZ. As you can see, I really enjoy kiwi life. However, I still want to improve my English skill much better. I want to spend my time valuably. Thank you for reading.

皆さんこんにちは。私は中村美月です。私は、最高のパートナーの瑞歩と一緒にハウラキプレインズカレッジに通っています。日本に帰るまで、とうとう残り数ヶ月だけになってしまいました。こんなに時間が早く過ぎるなんて驚きです。現在、私はニュージーランドですばらしい時間を過ごせているので、ぜひ紹介したいと思います。

 

まずは学校生活についてです。私は、全部で8教科、英語、数学、理科、社会、体育、マオリ、家庭科、そしてESOLを受けています。ずっと英語で授業を受けることは大変ですが、いまではすっかり慣れることができ、楽しむことができるようになりました。また、私はバドミントン部に所属しています。先日、高校生のバトミントン大会があり、パートナーとダブルスの部に出ました。とても緊張しましたが、パートナーのおかげで一番のプレイができ、試合にも勝つことができました。とてもうれしいです。他の大会にも出場する予定なので、今はそれが楽しみです。また、私は合唱部にも所属しています。他の学校に行って歌うことも今までありました。それぞれの学校で違った反応が返ってくることがとてもおもしろかったです。合唱部のメンバーとも良い時間を過ごすことができました。

 

次に、ホストファミリーについてお話しします。私のホストファミリーは、ホストマザー、ファザー、そしてシスターがいます。家で二匹ずつ猫、アルパカ、羊も飼っています。初めてホストファミリーと会ったときは、私は彼らが話す英語もわからず、自分の気持ちも上手く伝えることができず、とても緊張してしまいました。そういう気持ちになる事はきっとよくあることだと思ってはいましたが、その後しばらくしても彼らに心を開くことはできませんでした。どうしても雰囲気になじめなかったのです。だめだとは思っていました。乗り越えようとも思いましたが、どうすればいいかわかりませんでした。そして、ホストファミリーが優しく話しかけ続けてくれていたのに、ホームシックになってしまいました。ある日、私はホストファザーとシスターと一緒にアルパカのえさやりをしました。アルパカはとても大きく、最初は怖いなと感じてしまいました。一頭のアルパカはえさを食べてくれましたが、もう一方は食べてくれませんでした。えさを食べてくれたときうれしくなりましたが、もう一頭が食べてくれなかったことがとても残念でした。ホストファザーとシスターがどれだけ頑張っても、結局その一頭は最後までえさを食べてくれませんでした。次の日も私は挑戦しましたが、食べてくれませんでした。とても悲しくなりました。1人でえさやりをするときは、アルパカ達に話しかけてみました。しかし、一頭のアルパカはただじっと立って私を見ているだけでした。やっぱり両方にえさをあげることは無理かも知れないとあきらめながらも、次の日もえさをやってみました。アルパカを眺めていることが好きだったからです。いつも通りえさをやりました。その時、突然、2頭のアルパカが私に近づいてきて、一緒にえさを食べてくれました！私はとても驚きましたが、幸せでした。それを見ていたホストマザーとファザーも驚いていました。私は、この2頭のアルパカ達は家族の一員として私を認めてくれ、心を開いてくれたのだと思いました。　その時、私はアルパカ達から大事なことを学びました。私自身も、ホストファミリーに対して心を開いている、開きたいと思っていることをただ考えるのではなく、見せなければいけないのだということです。私は、ホストファミリーとの会話に積極的に入るように心がけました。今では、どんな事でもホストファミリーと話すことが好きになりました。ちなみに、2頭のアルパカは赤ちゃんを産むために他の場所に行ってしまいました。その後に、今度は2頭の羊がやって来ました。私のホストファミリーはクリスマスディナーにその羊たちを食べるそうです。びっくりですよね？

 

最後に、日本の家族と友達に感謝の気持ちを伝えたいと思います。私をいつでも支え続けてくれました。皆さんのおかげで、私はニュージーランドですばらしい人々に出会うことができ、またすばらしい経験をすることができました。皆さんもおわかりの通り、私は本当にキウイの生活（ニュージーランドの生活）を楽しんでいます。けれど、もっと英語力を伸ばしたいとも思っています。残された時間を大切に過ごしたいです。読んで下さりありがとうございました。
