Kia ora tatou! How have you been? It’s Sagan from Taumarunui High School. It is spring in NZ now and it’s getting warmer and warmer. I can’t believe there are only two weeks left until I return to Japan. I feel time has passed so fast. Today, I’d to share my life in New Zealand.
First of all, I’m going to talk about my school. My school’s system is completely different from other schools’. Honestly, I didn’t like my school system at first, so I couldn’t enjoy my school life. However, I like my school system now because I know what I should do at the school and I got used to it. I take ESOL, math, science, girls’ gym class, art, and outdoor education. My favourite classes are art and outdoor education. Let me tell you what I’ve done in art class. I’m always designing clothes because I want to be a designer in the future. However, I didn’t have confidence in my own designs because I compared them with other people’s designs. One day, a turning point came. My class teacher said to me ‘you should make a costume for wearable arts. I like your jellyfish design dress.’ I was happy because my teacher liked my design. So, I entered it in Wearable Arts 2018, a contest for costumes made from recycled things such as newspaper, plastic bags, tires, sponges, cardboard boxes, plastic table cloths, and others. I made a dress which looked like a jellyfish from a plastic table cloth. I was awarded a certificate for secondary division runner-up on that day. I was happy again because my design was recognized. Also, my friends said to me ‘I’m proud of you Sagan! Well done.’ I gained confidence through wearable arts.
By the way, I like outdoor education too. We can go kayaking, mountain biking, tramping, and snow sport during each term. I’ve taken this class since term two. Term two activity was mountain biking. I imagined that mountain biking would be so much fun and easy to do before I did it, but it was so hard for me. However, I keep challenging it because I knew that challenging something is the step for improving.
Next, I’d like to talk about my awesome friends. My best friends are Mihi, Shania, Nicole, and Shaquita. They are so kind to me and fun to be with. I like talking with them, but at the beginning of the relationship between them, I couldn’t enjoy talking with them. Needless to say, I couldn’t understand their English and I didn’t have any confidence in my English. So, I didn’t even talk with them a lot. I was wrong. One day, Mihi said to me ‘you are so quiet.’ I was sad and regret because it was full of my fault. After that, I tried talking a lot with them, although it was not going well because they couldn’t understand my English sometimes. I knew what I could do was continue talking with them. Now, I really enjoy it. I want to say thank you to them. I love them. I also like being with international students. They are so funny, but also crazy. I love being with them because I’m always laughing with them.
I had a lot of unforgettable experiences here, both pleasant and bitter. Theses experience can’t replace other things in my life. And, I think they will be helpful to me in the future. I’m happy to be able to come here. I have a great host family, friends, and teachers. I really want to say thank you to my family, my friends, and teachers who are supporting me from Japan. I’ll enjoy and have a meaningful time until the last moment of my stay.

お元気でしたか？ タウマルヌイ高校の瑳丸（さがん）です。 今ニュージーランドは春で、暖かくなっています。 帰国するまでに2週間しか残っていないとは思えません。 時間がとても早く過ぎたと感じています。 今日はニュージーランドでの生活を共有したいと思います。
まず学校についてお話します。私の学校のカリキュラムは他の学校とはまったく異なります。正直言って、私は学校のシステムが最初は好きではなく、学校生活を楽しむことができませんでした。しかし、私は今はこの学校のシステムが好きです。学校で何をすべきか分かるようになり、慣れました。私はESOL、数学、科学、女子の体育、美術、アウトドアエデュケーションを受けています。私の好きなクラスは、美術とアウトドアエデュケーションです。美術の授業で何をしたかお伝えします。私は将来デザイナーになりたいのでいつも服のデザインしています。しかし、他の人のデザインと比較して自分のデザインには自信がありませんでした。ある日転機が訪れました。先生が「あなたはウェアラブルアートのための衣装を作るべきよ。私はあなたがデザインしたクラゲのドレスが好きです。」と言ってくれました。先生が私のデザインを気に入ってくれて嬉しかったです。そこで、新聞、ビニール袋、タイヤ、スポンジ、段ボール箱、ビニール製のテーブルクロスなどのリサイクル品から作られた衣装のコンテストであるWearable Arts 2018に参加しました。私はビニール製のテーブルクロスからクラゲのように見えるドレスを作りました。私は、高校の部で２位に選ばれました。私のデザインが認められたので嬉しかったです。また、友人は私「瑳丸、私はあなたを誇りに思っているよ。頑張ったね！」と言ってくれました。ウェアラブルアートを通じて、自信を得ることができました。
アウトドアエデュケーションも好きです。 カヤック、マウンテンバイク、トランピング、スノースポーツを楽しむことができます。 私はこの授業を2学期から取りました。 ２学期はマウンテンバイクでした。 マウンテンバイクがとても楽しかったし、する前は簡単だと思っていましたが実際はとても難しかったです。 でも何かに挑戦することは成長のためのステップであることを知っていたので、私はそ挑戦し続けます。
次に、素晴らしい友達についてお話したいと思います。 私の親友はMihi、Shania、Nicole、Shaquitaです。とても親切で一緒にいて楽しいです。 皆と話をするのが好きですが、最初は会話を楽しむことができませんでした。 言うまでもなく、皆が話す英語を理解することができず、自分の英語にも自信がありませんでした。 だから私はあまり話さなかったのです。でもそれは間違いでした。 ある日、Mihiは私に「あなたはとても静かだね。」と言いました。それは自分に原因があるので、悲しく後悔しました。 その後、私の英語を理解してもらえなくてもたくさん話すようにしたら、 話を続けられるということに気づきました。 今では本当に楽しんでいます。 友人達に感謝していますし、大好きです。 私は留学生と一緒にいることも好きです。 とても面白く、クレイジーです。 私達はいつも一緒に笑っているので、一緒にいることが大好きです。
私は忘れられないたくさんの楽しい経験と辛い経験をしました。 これらの経験は人生で他のものに取って代わることはできません。 そして、将来必ず役立つと思います。 私はNZに来ることができてうれしいです。 素晴らしいホストファミリー、友人、そして先生に巡り合えました。 日本から私を支えてくれている家族、友人、先生に感謝しています。最後の瞬間まで意味のある時間を過ごしたいです。
