Mao（NZからのメッセージ）

Hi 😄I’m Mao and today, I’d like to talk about what my NZ life is like.
I’m living in Kerikeri which is at the top of the north land and I go to Kerikeri high school.

First of all, I’ll talk about my school life. My school is kind of a big school. There are about 1500 students, and about 80 of us are international students. I think one of the best things about this school is making friends from all over the world. At school, I take Esol, math, science, P.E. , photography and hospitality. Of those subjects, Esol is my favorite. In my Esol class, there are some students from China, Germany, Brazil, Thailand, Italy and Chile. We often talk about the world, and share and compare our own opinions. I feel like that is really cool to learn what everyone thinks about various things and sometimes everyone has different opinions. Many things are understandable and interesting.

I also like Hospitality. In hospitality class, we cook something twice a week. When I was in Japan, I hadn’t really cooked something because my mum always cooked, so when I first came here, and when I cooked something, my teacher was always like “Mao… What are you doing?” or even “What are you making?” with a smile. But now, I got better and when we recently had an assessment, I got an excellence! So when I get to Japan, I want to help my mum more than before, and make many kinds of Japanese dishes together.

Secondly, I’ll talk about my host family.
I have a host mum and two host sisters. Actually one of them is also an exchange student, and she is German. It’s also really good to have another exchange student with me because I can get more chances to talk with someone. We are both international students, so we can understand each other about many things even if she has more English skills than me. I’m enjoying having her as a sister.

My host family is Maori people. My host mum is really funny and kind to me. She has given me a lot of advice about everything. We always talk a lot about anything I want or even she wants. She always makes me laugh😄 My other host sister is six years old. Actually, I’m the youngest in my Japanese family, so this is the first time to be an older sister, and it’s really cool! She LOVES to play, so we always play some board games or our on a trampoline. I hope I’m a good sister for her.

Lastly, I want to talk about something important. It has been over nine months and now, we don’t even have one more month left. I can’t believe that my study abroad is almost over, but I’ve experienced A LOT OF THINGS from this study abroad. “You can change your study abroad life to be a special time for your life or a useless one. Just try your best and enjoy your time. It’s totally up to you.” That’s what my sisters, who also came to NZ as Eiryu students, told me. If they didn’t come to NZ, I’m sure I wouldn’t be here right now. Someday we’ll all come back to NZ and visit our host families together.

I’m so keen to see my family, friends and teachers this month again. I just want thank everyone who gave me support. Thanks for reading my essay and see you SOON! 😊❤

こんにちは麻緒です。ニュージーランドの生活がどんなものか話したいと思います。私はNZの一番北にあるケリケリに住んでいて、ケリケリ高校に通っています。

まず学校生活について話します。 私の学校は大きな学校で約1500人の生徒がおり、約80人は留学生です。この学校の良い所は世界中の友達を作れることだと思います。 授業は、Esol、数学、科学、体育、写真とホスピタリティを取っています。 ESOLが私のお気に入りです。 ESOLのクラスには、中国、ドイツ、ブラジル、タイ、イタリア、チリからの生徒がいます。 よく世界について話し、互いの意見を共有し、比較します。 誰もがさまざまなことについて考えることを学ぶのは本当にクールだと思うし、誰もが違う意見を持っている事もあり、 それも理解できて興味深いです。

ホスピタリティも好きです。 ホスピタリティのクラスでは週に2回料理します。 私が日本にいたときは、お母さんがいつも料理をして、私は本当に何も作っていなかったので、私がここに初めて来て調理したとき、先生は笑顔で「麻緒…何してるの？」、 「何を作っているの？」と言いました。 でも徐々に良くなり、最近試験を受けたとき、エクセレントをもらいました！ 帰国したら以前よりもお母さんを手伝い、たくさんの日本料理を一緒に作りたいと思っています。

次に、ホストファミリーについて話します。私にはホストマザーと2人のホストシスターがいます。 1人は交換学生でドイツ人です。私は誰かと話すチャンスを増やすことができるので、別の留学生がいることは本当に良いことです。英語のスキルが私よりも上でも、私たちはどちらも留学生なので、多くのことをお互いに理解し合えます。 私は彼女と姉妹でいることをとても楽しんでいます。

私のホストファミリーはマオリです。 ホストマザーは本当に面白くて親切です。 彼女は私に沢山のアドバイスをくれました。私たちはいつも互いに話したい事をたくさん話し、いつも私を笑わせてくれます。もう1人のホストシスターは6歳です。 私は日本では末っ子なので、これは初めて妹ができて、本当にクールです！彼女は遊ぶことが大好きなので、いつもボードゲームやトランポリンをしています。 私は彼女のために良い姉であることを願っています。

最後に、大切なことについて話をしたいと思います。 9ヶ月以上経ちましたが、今はもう一ヶ月も残っていません。留学がほとんど終わったと信じられませんが、たくさんのことを経験しました。「留学生活を自分の人生にとって特別なものにするか、無駄な時間に変えるかは自分次第。 あなたのベストを尽くして、楽しんで。 それは完全にあなた次第だから。」これは、英留の生徒としてニュージーランドに来た私の姉達が教えてくれたことです。 彼女達がニュージーランドに来ていなければ、私は今ここにいなかったでしょう。 いつか姉妹皆でニュージーランドに戻って一緒にホストファミリーを訪ねます。

もうすぐ家族、友人、先生方に会えるのが楽しみです。 サポートをしてくれた皆さんに感謝したいと思います。 私のエッセイを読んでくれてありがとうございました！
