Hello! It’s Suzuka from Hastings Girls High School. I live in Hastings where is located in east coast of North Island in NZ. Hastings is a really good place. This summer was the hottest summer that my host parents have ever had. However, it was not wet like Japan, so it was comfortable for me. Now, NZ is autumn and the leaves changed the colour. Also term 1 already finished and term 2 has begun. Then, I’d like to tell you about my NZ life. I’m having a great time with my host family and friends.
First, let me introduce my host family because they are very nice and I thank them for having me. There are three people, my host mother, father, brother and one dog. My host parents are very kind to me and they help me a lot. Also they teach me things about NZ that I’ve never heard before and I really enjoy having conversations with them. However, when they ask me about Japan, I sometimes can’t answer them. So I need to know more about Japan more. I like making sweets, so I sometimes make sweets with my host mother or by myself. I’ve made cheesecake, cookies, banana cake, chocolate cake, brownies and so on. Recently, my host mother made chocolate pudding and it was very good!! I like it the best. My host brother is only 8 months old and he is very cute!
When I met him first time, he couldn’t do anything, but now, he can roll over and sit and he has been trying to crawl. I can see his growth and it encourages me a lot. I’ d like to make good memories with them.
Second, I’m going to tell you about my school life. My school, Hastings Girls High School, has really good students and teachers. They’re very friendly and kind. On the first day of the school, I was nervous and I didn’t know anything about the school. When the time of morning tea came, I didn’t know what time it was. So I asked Kiwi students. I didn’t have any friends to eat with because it was the first day, so I asked a student “ Can I eat with you?” and she said “ Sure!”. I was very happy! She took me to the place where she eats with her friends and now, they became my best friends. When we speak to Kiwi students, we need some courage, but they are very nice. They won’t say “No” if we don’t forget to smile!
I have many things that I’d like to share with you, but I can’t write them all. I’m so happy to come to NZ and meet my host family and friends. I thank my parents and teachers for supporting me from Japan. I’d like to make my studying abroad better and when I’m back to Japan, I’ll continue to grow as a person. I’ll do my best in NZ!!!

こんにちは！ヘイスティングスガールズ高校に通っている涼花です。NZ北島の東部に位置するヘイスティングスに住んでいます。とても良い所です。今年の夏は私のホストファミリーが今までに経験した中で一番暑い夏だったそうです。しかし、日本とは違い湿気がなく、私には過ごしやすい季節でした。今NZは秋を迎え、葉が紅葉しています。また、１学期がすでに終わり、２学期が始まりました。そこで、私は私のニュージーランド生活を紹介したいと思います。ホストファミリーや友達と良い時間を過ごしています。
まず、ホストファミリーを紹介します。なぜなら彼らはとても素敵で、私は彼らに感謝の気持ちでいっぱいだからです。私のホストファミリーは、ファザー、マザー、ブラザーの３人と犬が１匹います。ホストペアレンツは私にとても優しく、たくさん助けられています。また、私が以前に聞いた事のないNZの事について色々教えてくれます。私は彼らと会話をすることがとても楽しいです。しかし、日本について質問されると答えられないことがあるので、日本についてもっと知っておく必要があると実感しました。私はお菓子作りが大好きで、時々ホストマザーとスイーツを作ります。今までには、チーズケーキ、クッキー、バナナケーキ、チョコレートケーキ、ブラウニーを作りました。最近、彼女がチョコレートプリンを作ってくれ、とてもおいしく、私はそれが１番好きです。ホストブラザーは８ヶ月の赤ちゃんで、とっても可愛いです。初めて会ったときは何もできなかった彼が、今では寝返りや座ることができるようになり、今ハイハイをしようと頑張っているところです。私は彼の成長を見ることができ、そのことが私をたくさん勇気づけてくれます。彼らとともに沢山の思い出を作っていきたいです。
次に、学校生活についてお話します。私の学校ヘイスティングスガールズ高校には、とても良い先生と生徒が沢山います。彼らはとてもフレンドリーで優しいです。学校の初日、私は緊張していたのに加えて、学校について何も知りませんでした。モーニングティーの時間の時も私は何の時間か分からなかったので、現地の生徒に尋ねました。初日だったので、一緒に食べる友達もいなかったので私がその生徒に「一緒に食べていい？」と聞くと彼女は「もちろん！」と答えてくれました。とても嬉しかったです。彼女は彼女の友達のところへ私を連れて行ってくれて、今では彼女達が私の１番の友達になりました。私達が現地の生徒に話しかける時はいくらかの勇気が必要かもしれませんが、彼女達はとても優しいです。笑顔を忘れなければ、彼女達は「NO」と言うことはないと思います。
私にはシェアしたいことがまだまだありますが、すべて書くことはできません。私はNZに来たこと、そしてホストファミリーや友達に出会うことができたことをとても嬉しく思っています。日本から支えて下さっている親や先生方に感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。留学生活をよりよいものにし、帰国した時に人として成長できるよう頑張ります。自分のベストをNZで尽くしてきます！！
