Haruka（NZからのメッセージ）

Kia ora! I’m Haruka and I go to Horowhenua College with my partner Yuina. This school is the first time that Jin-ai students have attended this school, so I was nervous at first. However, kiwi students and teachers are friendly and lovely, so I’m getting used to my school life.

First, I’m going to talk about my host family. My host father Aaron is a computer technician and when I have some trouble with the computer and my phone, I ask him. I have a funny story. After using the bathroom at night, we have to lock the door, because my host brothers play there in the morning if the door isn’t locked. In fact, a few years ago, my host family had an international student and she forgot to lock the door, so the boys played in the bathroom and their house seems to have got soaked. Then, one night, when I was using the bathroom, I heard a sound which was like the door being locked. Yes, Aaron didn’t notice that I was using the bathroom and he locked the door! I knocked on the door hastily, so he noticed me and removed the door’s lock. If he hadn’t noticed me, I might have slept with a bath towel. (hahaha) My host mother Leah is a kindergarten teacher. Also, she is pregnant. Her baby is a girl and the baby will be born in July. She likes making sweets and she bakes every Monday. I’m looking forward to eating sweets which are made by her every week. My host brothers Joshua and William are always full of energy and mischievous, so my host parents are busy especially in the morning. At first, I worried whether I’d be able to enjoy living with them, but I really enjoy it now.

Next, I’m going to talk about my Easter holiday. My host parents and their parents gave me some Easter eggs on Good Friday and Easter Day. Good Friday is the day when Jesus was crucified and passed away and Easter Day is the day when Jesus revived. Then, I went to the Armageddon Expo in Wellington with my host father the next day after Good Friday. Before we went there, I was excited, but I was also worried because it takes about an hour and a half from my town, Levin to Wellington by car, so I didn’t have confidence to talk to him for a long time. However, we talked about a lot of things. For example, about religion, transport, NZ and Japan. I couldn’t understand all of his stories, but I enjoyed talking with him. When I arrived at the stadium in which the Expo was being held, I was surprised because there were a lot of cosplayers and their cosplays were of high quality! I was so excited because I saw the cosplayers who wore costumes made to resemble my favorite anime characters and I could take photos with them. Also, when I asked them to take photos, they gladly complied with my requests. I think I could build up nerve to talk to people through this experience. There were many shops (especially anime) and a lot of goods that I hadn’t seen in Japan, so it was a lot of fun and I was excited all through. Then, I met American anime voice actors luckily. I was impressed to be able to hear their voices close to them. 😊

I have a lot of issues that I have to overcome now and it’s very difficult for me to overcome them. However, I decided the goal which is to change myself through study abroad before I came to NZ. I keep trying to realize my goal!

こんにちは！陽花です。パートナーの由奈と一緒にホロフェヌアカレッジに通っています。この学校は、仁愛生が留学生活を送るのが私たちが初めてだったので、初めは緊張しました。しかし、生徒や先生方はフレンドリーですてきな人たちなので、だんだん学校生活に慣れてきました。
まず、私のホストファミリーを紹介します。ホストファザーのアーロンはコンピューターのエンジニアで、パソコンや携帯電話のことでわからないことがあれば、彼に聞いています。おもしろい思い出があります。夜にバスルームを使った後、私たちはドアに鍵をかけなければなりません。もしドアに鍵がかかっていなかったら、朝にホストブラザーたちが遊ぶからです。実際に、数年前にある留学生を受け入れたときに、彼女が鍵をかけ忘れてしまい、ホストブラザーたちが遊んで家中が水浸しになってしまったそうです。そして、私がバスルームを使っていた時に、ドアの鍵がかかったような音が聞こえました。そうです、アーロンが私に気付かずに鍵をかけてしまったのてす！私は慌ててドアをノックして、彼は私に気付いて鍵を外してくれました。もし彼が気付いてくれなかったら、私はバスタオル１枚で寝ていたかもしれません。(笑) ホストマザーのリアは保育園の先生で、妊婦さんでもあります。赤ちゃんは女の子で、７月に生まれる予定です。彼女はお菓子作りが好きで、毎週月曜日にお菓子を作ります。私は毎週彼女が作ったお菓子を食べるのを楽しみにしています。ホストブラザーのジョシュアとウィリアムはいつも元気いっぱいでやんちゃなので、ホストペアレンツは特に朝が忙しいです。最初は彼らとの生活を楽しめるか不安でしたが、今はとても楽しんでいます。

次に私のイースター休暇について話します。グッドフライデーとイースターデーに私のホストペアレンツと彼らの両親からいくつかのイースターエッグをもらいました。グッドフライデーとは、イエス・キリストが十字架にかけられて亡くなった日、イースターデーはイエス・キリストが復活した日です。そして、私はグッドフライデーの翌日にホストファザーとアルマゲドン・エキスポが開催されたウェリントンに行きました。ウェリントンへ行く前、私はワクワクしていましたが不安でもありました。理由は、私が住んでいる町レビンからウェリントンまで車で約1時間半かかり、長時間彼と話せる自信が無かったからです。しかし、私たちはいろんな事を話しました。例えば、宗教、交通機関、ニュージーランドや日本についてです。私は彼の話全ては理解できませんでしたが、彼との会話を楽しめました。エキスポが開催されたスタジアムに着いたとき、私はたくさんのコスプレイヤーと彼らのコスプレのクオリティーの高さにとても驚きました。そして、彼らに写真を一緒に撮っても良いか頼んだとき、快く応じてくれました。この経験を通して、人々に話しかける度胸がついたと思います。会場にはたくさんのお店 (特にアニメ) や日本では見たことのないグッズがあり、すごく楽しくて興奮しっぱなしでした。それから、幸運なことにアメリカのアニメ声優の方々にも会うことができました。彼らの声を間近で聞けて感動しました。

今の私には克服しなければならない課題がたくさんあり、それらを克服するのはとても難しいです。しかし、私はニュージーランドに来る前に留学を通して自分自身を変えるという目標として立てました。それを実現できるように挑戦し続けます！
