From NZ（Meria）

Hi, everyone! How have you been? I’m Meria from Tauraroa Area School in Whangarei, which is near top of New Zealand. I can’t believe that about five months have already passed since I came to New Zealand. I’m really enjoying my NZ life. I’ve already had so many experiences here, so I would like to share some of my memories with you.    

Before sharing my memories, I’m going to introduce my host family. My host family has 6 members including me. I have three host sisters, but two of them are twins who go to university, so we don’t live together. That means I’m living with my host father, mother, sister, a dog, and 22 cows at the top of a hill. My host sister and I are the same age, so we go to school as year 12 students together by bus every day. By the way, when we go to school, my host mother drives us to the bus stop.  When we go down the hill every morning, we can see a beautiful sunrise from there. It encourages me to go to school.  The sunset is beautiful as well.   

Next, I will share some happy memories with you. First, I went to Auckland to watch a concert with my host sister and mother. My host sister is a huge fan of PENTATONIX, who sings a cappella. It was my first time to attend a concert in a foreign country, so I was excited. It was fun singing along with them.  

Second, I’ll tell you about my club activity.  I joined the netball club at school in Term 2. We have training once a week, and we have games with other high schools every Saturday. My friends invited me to join the club, but I was nervous about joining it at first because I had never played netball before and because I didn’t even know the rules. However, I thought it important to try anything. The other day, when I played in a game, I was able to contribute to the team and the coach selected me as the MVP of the team. So many people encouraged me to play netball, and now I really enjoy playing it.  

  I also have started taking Korean lessons online once a week since Term 2. I have learned Korean by myself since I was 12 years old, but I had never learned it from a native speaker, so I enjoy learning Korean with other school friends. In addition, I can learn Korean while using English. Moreover, we have a meeting connecting NZ and South Korea for an exchange once a term. The time is super amazing, I really enjoy it. I am happy that my dream of making friends around the world is coming true.  

Finally, I would like to thank all the people who have supported my studying abroad: my family, my host family, all the teachers and my precious friends. I will continue to enjoy my NZ life and I am looking forward to returning home in November with confidence.

 皆さん、こんにちは！いかがお過ごしでしょうか。私はファンガレイのタウラロアエリアスクールに通っているメリアです。すでに私がニュージーランドに来てから5ヶ月が過ぎようとしているなんて信じられません。私は留学生活を楽しんでいます。ニュージーランドで沢山の経験をしたのでそれを皆さんとシェアしたいと思います。  

　その前に私のホストファミリーを紹介します。私のホストファミリーは私を含めて6人家族です。ホストシスターが3人いますが、そのうち2人の双子のシスターは大学に行っているので一緒には住んでいません。つまり、ホストファザーとマザー、シスター１人、犬、そして、22頭の牛と丘の上で過ごしています。私とホストシスターとは同じ年のYear12で、毎日バスで一緒に通学しています。学校に行くとき、毎朝ホストマザーがバス停まで運転してくれ丘を下るのですが、そこから見える朝日がとっても綺麗です。毎朝朝日が私を応援してくれているようで、今日も一日頑張ろうと思えます。夕日もとても綺麗です。  

では、楽しかったこと、今楽しんでいる事をシェアします。まず、私はホストシスターとマザーとオークランドに行き、ペンタトニックスというアカペラで歌うアーティストのコンサートに行きました。シスターはそのグループの大ファンです。私は海外でコンサートに行くのははじめての経験だったのでとてもワクワクでした。彼らと一緒に歌って盛り上がって楽しかったです。  

次に、部活についてです。私は2学期からネットボール部に所属しています。練習が週に一回あり、毎週土曜日に他の学校と試合を行ないます。友達が部活に誘ってくれたのですが、最初は緊張してあまり乗り気ではありませんでした。今までネットボールをしたことがなく、ルールさえわからなかったからです。しかし、なんにでも挑戦してみようと思い、部活に入ることを決めました。ある土曜日にゲームをした日、私はチームに貢献するプレイができて、コーチがチームの中で私をMVPに選んでくれました。たくさんの方がネットボールすることを応援してくれて入部してよかったと思いました。  

私はまた、2学期からオンラインで他の学校の人と一緒に韓国語レッスンも1週間に１回受けています。12歳から今まで独学で韓国語を勉強していましたが、ネイティブの先生から教えてもらえるということで、私にとって貴重な経験になっています。それに、英語を使って他言語を学べるというのは一石二鳥だと思います。1学期に１回、韓国とニュージーランドをオンラインでつなぎ交流会があり、韓国人と英語で話したり、韓国語で話したりして、とても楽しい時間を過ごせました。私の夢でもある世界中に友達を作ることが叶って幸せです。  

最後に私の留学を応援してくださっている人、日本の家族、ホストファミリー、先生方や友達に感謝したいです。残りの留学生活も楽しんで、11月に自信をつけて日本に帰ることを楽しみにしています。
